I remember Travis Parker coming up to me at HCSC after he saw Patchwork Patterns, and he said it made him.... something. Want to snowboard... like snowboarding again... find new things to do on his snowboard... and coming from Travis Parker who was basically a pioneer of radness really meant something. Then he gave me a rollerblade keychain. Which I still have. In Patchwork Patterns we changed the way we snowboarded. It wasn't adding artsiness to the video, it was making snowboarding the art. I like to think of Patchwork Patterns as our Landmark video. We also went on our first International trip (to Austria) which was an adventure to say the least and kind of a right of passage. Scott Stevens and Johnny Miller were forces of magic unleashed onto the Earth and Jesse's vision of making a little different kind of snowboard video started taking shape. Also Patchwork Patterns year we were all super broke. Maybe from that International trip that we took and maybe from not ever making money making snowboard videos. And Jesse came up with the slogan "Recession Proof Snowboarding!" Snow might be bad, the economy might be in the crapper, but with friends, a shovel, a bit of snow and creative flights of fancy anything was possible. It was liberating.
